The Neighbourhood Feed Archives for September 2011

Dude, where’s my ball ?

So as soon as you mention a bowling visit around here, references to both the Big Lebowski and King Pin fly around. And so when the bowling pop up that was “Pin-Up Bowling” appeared in Spinningfields, it was too good an opportunity not to get the paisley shirt out the wardrobe, dust off the flares and get ourselves down there for a night of strikes and spares.

Administration and technical issues aside, a few teething problems from the venue, we managed to squeeze 20 people onto 2 lanes, and so Hannah’s team took on Brett’s team to see who could walk home with the coveted title of Neighbourhood Bowling Team 2011.

It was evident early on that it had been a long time since many of us had bowled – the lanes seemed a lot smaller, the balls a lot heavier, and the gullies a lot wider. There were some ‘interesting’ bowling techniques on show, with a certain Sarah Baker in close contention for stance of the night!

If memory serves correctly, you want to be on a team with Dave Buckley, steady all the way through the 10 games, clocking a very respectable score.

We can’t really remember who won, but there were plenty of smiles around!

Why we love the NQ

Now our Mike’s only had the pleasure of going to the Notting Hill Carnival once, but the mix of sounds, smells, vibrant colours and wonderful people culminated in a great day.

The Northern Quarter Street Party earlier this year took him back to that day in West London. It's a celebration of those that make the Northern Quarter what it is, its people, whether it’s the diverse and eclectic businesses they own, or those that simply work and live there. There is something very special and unique about this part of town and that day just summed it all up, just hope they do it again.

And boy can that Mr Scruff get a crowd going!
