Detail

We’re always interested in new technologies – particular those that work across the digital and physical divide.

3d printing is something we’ve explored on a few occasions, to rapidly prototype imagined forms, thanks to those fantastic folk over at the Fab Labs in Manchester.

We decided to print out one of our characters from our Sweet Shop project – a ‘Card Guard’. We were blown away when this little fella arrived back in the studio, standing at around 6 inches tall, in full technicolour and fine detail.

With the gloriously named Thing-O-Matic from Makerbot providing a relatively low-cost entry point into 3d printing – it’s already going mainstream, and we think it has to potential to affect all of our lives in the near future.

We wonder how long it will be before 3d printers are common in every home?
