Manorama
Animated idents and graphics for a new Indian television channel.
Project Hightlights
Detail
Manorama is an Indian TV channel and established broadcast brand in the south Indian state of Kerala.
Red Bee approached us to work with them on a full graphics package for a new entertainment channel in line with a proposed rebrand.
The concept is about bringing energy, colour, vibrancy and variety to the familiar and recognisable 'M' icon. The mechanic of the rebrand interprets the logo as a glass container containing swirling, multi-coloured ink shapes in liquid.
The idents take us on a journey inside the logo, as the viewer follows a visual narrative which explores morphing ink shapes to reveal animated scenes typical of Keralian life.
As the ink disperses into the water we see everyday scenes such as a woman riding a scooter across a bridge and an oil lamp being lit, as they morph into specific celebrations of Keralian culture such as elephant parades, traditional Cheda drummers and Kalaripayattu warrior battles.
After a period of R&D analysing how ink behaves in water we took the approach of using CG particles and fluid dynamics to give us the degree of control we needed to choreograph and fine tune the look and pace of the final sequences.
The channel launched on 31st October 2011, with the aim to follow the success of their sister news channel, which quickly reached the number 1 position in the region.
