Detail
Many of the exhibitions at IWM North deliver personal and poignant viewpoints on war.
‘Once Upon a Wartime' which opens on the 11th February shares similar themes. Loyalty, separation, excitement, survival and identity are explored through the true life inspiration behind five powerful books for children.
War Horse, Carrie's War, The Machine Gunners, The Silver Sword and Little Soldier all look at the experiences of war and conflict through a child’s eyes.
We were approached by Hemisphere to work with them on their campaign to promote the exhibition, as the launch of Steven Spielberg’s film based on the War Horse provided a unique opportunity to get in front of the target audience for the exhibition with a cinema advert. The media strategy for the campaign saw the advert being shown at the start of the War Horse movie in cinemas across the region.
Building on original designs from Hemisphere, it became clear we had an opportunity to reflect the depth and richness of the books across a 20 second treatment. Although not focussing on individual publications each is represented at various stages of the animation in a journey that sees the viewer led through the world of each respective story.
The resulting animation aims to capture the emotion and essence of the books in order to attract children and adults alike to this free exhibition.
The cinema advert is supported by further campaign material designed by Hemisphere, including advertising and print.
This special exhibition will be on show at IWM North until 2 September, and details of the exhibition can be found here.
